A recent ruling by a federal judge against former President Donald J. Trump adds yet another troubling chapter to his long record of actions that undermine the constitutional foundations of the United States. This time, the issue was his unilateral deployment of the National Guard to Los Angeles, without California’s consent, in clear violation of the "Tenth Amendment" of the Constitution.
📜 The Case: The National Guard in Los Angeles
In response to protests over immigration crackdowns, Trump ordered approximately "4,000 National Guard troops" to be deployed in California. According to the ruling by U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer, this action was illegal, because it violated:
* The Tenth Amendment, which reserves powers not delegated to the federal government to the states.
* The legal limits of Executive authority, by exceeding presidential power over state military forces like the National Guard.
This was not only a clear abuse of power, but also an "authoritarian attempt" to use state troops as a federal political weapon. California Governor "Gavin Newsom", acting within his rightful authority, filed a lawsuit to halt the deployment—highlighting the institutional crisis provoked by Trump’s actions.
⚖️ Trump’s Track Record of Constitutional Violations
This is not an isolated incident. Throughout his political career, Trump has shown a "consistent pattern of disregard for the U.S. Constitution", wielding presidential power arbitrarily. Here are some of the most notable violations:
1. First Amendment – Freedom of the Press and Speech.
Repeated attacks on the media, labeling them “enemies of the people,” and threatening to revoke press licenses of critical outlets.
2. Separation of Powers.
Public intimidation of federal judges and refusal to comply with court rulings, undermining the independence of the Judiciary.
3. The Muslim Travel Ban.
Widely criticized and partially blocked by courts for discriminating based on religion and nationality.
4. Second Impeachment (2021).
For inciting the January 6th Capitol insurrection, when he urged supporters to march to the Capitol to block the certification of electoral votes.
5. Abuse of Federal Resources for Political Gain.
Attempted to withhold military aid to Ukraine in exchange for political dirt on opponents—violating funding laws and abusing executive power.
6. Tenth Amendment – National Guard and Immigration Raids.
The recent court ruling adds to the list, making it clear that deploying state military forces without state consent is unconstitutional.
🧭 Final Thoughts
Judge Breyer put it best: "This country was founded in response to a monarch, and the Constitution is a document of limitations.” This statement captures the heart of what’s at stake. Trump has sought to govern like a modern-day monarch, breaking through constitutional barriers designed to preserve liberty, state sovereignty, and representative democracy.
This is not just a political dispute. It’s about fidelity to the fundamental law of the land. When a president acts as though he is above the Constitution, it is the duty of the Judiciary, the states, and the people to speak out.
"Trump has not simply been a controversial president—he has been a president in constant conflict with the founding principles of the nation he swore to protect."
